Even when it's a battle I know I'll win, the autoresolve seems to do it better. I barely fight any of the Native American armies anymore because of how stacked the autoresolve seems to be in my favour. Turn up with a regular stack, maybe a few more cannon than usual, and just auto resolve it. The autoresolve seems to love cannon and hate native american armies. I'm going to need a few others to chime in on what I'm about to say because this comes purely from what I've experienced. That last point it a risk strategy because it can obviously lead to exhausted isolated units and sounds like a terrible plan, but it can be effective when done correctly.īut there is an easier way I think. I have tried turning fire at will off and halting them and reordering, but no matter what they will either not listen at all, or take forever (about 5- 10 minutes to switch targets. They rarely listen to my orders after that. They'll run away and your infantry might not reach them, but whilst they're doing this they not inexplicably decimating your troops with every volley and then the cavalry can make short work of them once they turn up. My artillery will fire and on my order for the first volley. A good way to keep archers "busy" is to try and engage them with melee infantry before the cavalry can turn up. Play it like you'd play a cavalry faction in a nongunpower game, use you're infantry and keep them busy and cavalry to kill them.
Isolate and annihilate, divide and conquer. AI armies in empire aren't good at retaining army cohension. Well, as you've mentioned, cavalry stacking your armies is also a good tactic against native Americans whose units are often weak against cavalry.
